Evolution of People Recognition.

History has provided information of how people were recognized at different points in time. In the most ancient time, footprints differentiated people from animals. After that, people had to be given a name and, when names started to repeat, they were associated to the job the person performed, such as Joseph the Carpenter, Michael the Blacksmith, Mary the Baker, Luke the Shepherd, etc.

At that time, children and wives were also associated to the father’s job. For instance, Matthew, the son of Joseph the Carpenter, Mary, the wife of Joseph the Carpenter. More and more people and families got concentrated at different locations and towns were created, originating family or last names as time went by. Last names started to repeat and people were then registered by their identity document number. Later on, in periods closer to our present time, photographs were incorporated.

Fingerprints provide an infallible means of personal identification. That is the basic explanation of why they replace other methods to identify criminals. Other personal traits change – fingerprints don’t.

Nearly 30 years ago, technological developments helped create additional identification devices such as magnetic and proximity cards, allowing identification and access «of cards», not people.

The technology was improving and in 1996 joined the Biometrics commercial market and ceased to be an exclusive product of the Police and / or state

Since September 11 2001 «REAL» people identification has begun to be essential and Biometrics is the only technology allowing to provide it, hence its boom.
